So, what's a "Confederatarian", anyhow?
‘L, as I sorta explained in th’ sidebar, where I wuz mostly funnin’ with y’all, “confederatarian” means: “ 1) confederate + libertarian; 2) an individual who tells every tyrant to go to hell, not just Yankee tyrants, but who does so preferably from within th’ confines of Dixie.” Mo’ ohn-att in justa lil’ bit.
Lotsa folk, ‘specially ‘em damn fool libruls at th’ Southern Poverty Law Center ‘n they ideological ilk (‘ncludin’ some no-account neocons), like t’ call us “neo-Confederates”. But that ol’ term ain’t really right fir a couple-a reasons. First, th’ old Confederates never really went away. Since th’ War of Northern Aggression, several generations of Southrons have held th’ ol’ Confed’racy in they hearts. Of ' em folks here in this day ‘n age, a number have started raisin’ a ruckus 'bout liberty ‘n Southern rights. Ain’t nuthin’ “neo” ‘bout us.
Second of all, in th’ minds of th’ historically illiterate ‘n th’ politically correct anyway (all th’ same people, mostly), “neo-Confederate” evokes th’ evil of slavery, ‘long with some fool notion that we all wud defend the “peculiar institution” today or, even if we wudn’t, that we are just garden variety racists. ‘N-att ain’t true neither. As a quote in my sidebar from Colorado League of th’ South director Mac Aston sez, while we ain’t afraid t’ tawk frankly ‘bout race, we ain’t racists (or any other kind of “ist” fir that matter.) Wut we believe is fir ever’ hue ‘n color; fir ever’one who longs for liberty and communal well-bein’. So, so much, then, fir wut we ain’t. Here’s wut we are:
1) We are paleoconservatives/paleolibertarians of th’ Southron variety. Go look at th’ Wiki article ohn paleconserativism, n’ read th’ section ohn th’ Southern tradition.
2) As libertarians, we believe in th’ individual rights given to us by God and recognized by our Foundin’ Fathers, and by state and federal constitutions.
3) As Confederates, while many of us hope for th’ liberation of th’ Southern states from th’ bondage imposed on them in 1865, th’ overridin’ idear ain’t so much a free Dixie as it is th’ liberation of ALL th’ states from Rome on th’ Potomac’s centralized control. Th’ implication of this, now that it’s-clear that we ain’t never gonna git th’ old federalism back, is-att we believe in th’ right of a state to secede from th’ present union, a right that was recognized early ohn by some of America’s Foundin’ Fathers ‘n early constitutional commintaters, before ol’ Andy Jackson and Abe Lincoln put th’ kibosh ohn-att right. Only way American’s ever gonna git they liberty back, ‘n only way we gonna recover th’ original republicanism, is if’n we dissolve th’ present union and then recombine into a CONFEDERATION of free states. We need t’ go back t’ that ol’ debate ‘twixt th’ Federalists ‘n th’ Anti-Federalists, havin’ now lurned that th’ Anti-Federalists were right, create somethin’ new (which is really somethin’ very old) – a republic. Or more precisely, a confederation of republics, since they’s stuff, as th’ sons of Euro-Anglo-Celts, that unites us as well as divides us. ‘Specially since we ain’t one people ideologically no mo’. Libruls ‘n conservatives cain’t live together, so we must be able to have our own lands ‘n gummints. The Second Vermont Republic’ll never be Dixie, but so what? We kin have our own places but live in neighborly-like accord.
So, “Confederatarians” are men ‘n women who long t’ be free, but who don’t absolutize liberty like the neo-libertarians do. Y’ cain’t jus do ever’thang 'n anythang ye want. But th’ rule-a thumb oughter be that the gummint shud jus back off generally speakin’, and that folks oughter jus mind they own bizness. Oughter be able to smoke-att doobie or look-att that girlie magazine if’n ye want to. But freemen of like religious and cultural mind will want t’ live together, ‘n to do so they must create a state, or a gummint, fir th’ sake of basic order and enforcin' community values. Cain’t have no individuals without community; cain’t have no community without individuals. 'N sometimes-att means the community can put the ol' kibosh on activities deemed harmful to it. It’s a balance that mus be struk.
Almos’ makes a body want t’ become a Confederatarian, don’t it?
So, yeh, while we believe th’ South wuz right ‘about secession, we ain’t livin’ in-att past. We looklin’ t’wahd th’ future. Well, t’ th’ past too, t’whad that vision of wut America wuz mint to be. Cuz we all lost that, ‘n it’s mainly th’ blame of money men and power grabbers, who are today represented by both major political parties. Gotta git away from them fellers ‘n gals ‘n make us a new reality. Gotta git away from 'em dumbass foreign wars, overtaxin' and general busybodyin' 'n th' affairs of th' people. Gotta tell DC t' take a hike. That’s wut we Confederatarians believe, ‘n we thank there are miny of y’all out there who believe as we do.
