What is Confederalism?

"Confederalism's" a term yir gonna be hearin' more 'n more as th' American Empire implodes, as Americans come t' detest Warshuntun DC mo' thin-ey alreddy do, 'n as-ey try t' come t' grips with wut th' country really shud be.
Confederalism is a form of government in which states within a nation have the most control over their laws. It is generally accepted that in a confederacy, the federal government exists only to discuss what actions the country in general should take, to organize the military forces of the states, to discuss state and federal borders, and create a close alliance between states.
The individual states would create their own laws, militias, and governments.
Proponents of confederalism suggest this form of government as an alternative to federalism . They point out that in a federal government, one's is "ruled by the majority." In other words, one's opinion and one's vote can do very little to oppose laws and decisions supported by the majority of the entire nation, and one cannot get a law passed unless the majority of the nation both hear of and agree with it. They argue that in a confederacy, one could practice freedom of association, moving freely to a state or town in which the laws most closely match those that one would prefer. Additionally, voters in a confederacy have the most direct control over their own laws.
Although states create a few of the laws, the United States of America has a system of government in which federal laws override local laws, thus it is generally considered a federal government.
With confederalism, as opposed t' th kind of Yankee-perverted federalism-at now tyrannizes th' land, th' central gummint will TRULY become th' servant of sovereign states, whether 'em states exist individually or in smaller confederacies of culturally-similar states, like ol' Dixie, or th' Left Coast.

Jonesie - As a lifelong and unapolagetic supporter of Confederacy in the United States, we agree on the merits of this post 100%. I have been watching the federal government reject the constitution time and again, especially the 10th Amendment. If I had to offer a guess, a majority of Americans would limit their knowledge of the Bill o' Rights to "Freedom of Speech, Seperation of Church and State, and Guns" to most likely quote the Plebs.
In a perfect world we could hope for the stability of free men in these states under a loose confederation - unfortunately the deck is stacked against us... and with the NorCom deployment of the Big Red One's combat troops to the US in a time of peace (in violation of the Constitution), there is little chance that the Fed is going to relinquish any power it has recently granted itself.
I just posted a more in depth thought about this just after your last slam on my Friday blog. Please read, and let's discuss.
Regarding the RMA - I consider myself the voice of reason. See, I am a Libertarian working within the Republican Party in an attempt to move the party away from her Authoritarian NeoCon tendancies... so having a voice in forums such as the RMA allows something more than the same within their circles - and hopefully forces them to ask some questions. I have had a positive response to some of my less than friendly posts from within the RMA... so long as I have my soul intact, I will continue to use such forums to reach out to unlikely readership... just as I use my position in the party to strive for change in the GOP to more traditional small government ideals and stopping the leftward pendulum.
If not for the RMA, I doubt you and I would have met-up in the blogosphere... so it can't be all that bad! :)
